Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

Helping children with autism reach their full potential

What is ABA?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is a scientifically research-based, data-driven method for systematic ongoing evaluation and teaching strategies for developmentally appropriate behavior. It is implemented to help clients learn new skills that can be integrated across essential areas of day-to-day experiences usually required for life-long success. ABA is a proven and highly effective approach for teaching children and adolescents with autism necessary adaptive skills for the enjoyment of greatest independence in everyday living when interacting at home, at school, and in the community.

Areas where ABA can help

  • Behavior management (emotional regulation, flexible thinking, problem solving)

  • Communication (language development and conversational skills)

  • Social skills (adaptive and functional as needed for life at home, with friends, and co-workers)

  • Organizational (executive function) skills

  • Embedded fine and gross motor skills (using buttons, zippers, pouring liquid, handwriting, climbing stairs, enjoying playground equipment)

  • Daily living skills (potty training, self-care, vocational)

  • School readiness (engagement for early learning/group learning, following routines)

About ABA at Lake Pointe

All ABA services are provided Licensed Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBA) and Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT).

Treatment plans and services are individualized to the needs of each client and family and based on thorough assessments. We understand the importance of making learning FUN, and strive to ensure your child is growing and receiving therapy in a safe and kid-friendly environment. Most sessions are one-to-one instruction and small group when indicated.

The goals for your child will include natural opportunities for learning, while working intimately with parents and siblings toward real-life issues and person-centered meaningful outcomes!

At Lake Pointe, we understand goals may look different for each individual. We value the importance of working hand in hand with parents, educators and other therapists on the team.

Getting Started with ABA Therapy at Lake Pointe

We know that seeking services can feel overwhelming, and we’re here to support you from day one. At Lake Pointe, our goal is to create a warm, trusting partnership with every family. Here’s what you can expect:

1. Complete the Application for Services: To begin services, complete our initial application. Within 2-5 business days, you’ll receive an email to schedule a consultation call with our Intake Coordinator. This call helps us get to know your family and answer any questions you may have. If we are mutually a good fit, your child will be placed on our waitlist, with an estimated wait time of 8–15 months depending on availability. We stay in touch with families on our waitlist monthly to check in, offer support, and share helpful resources.

2. Understanding the Cost of Services: Your out-of-pocket cost depends on your individual insurance benefits.

Our team will:

  • Verify your insurance coverage

  • Provide a Good Faith Estimate of any expected costs

  • Work with most major insurance carriers, Medicaid plans, and can request Single Case Agreements if needed.

3. Comprehensive ABA Assessment: Once services begin, your child will receive a specialized assessment with one of our Board Certified Behavior Analysts (BCBAs).

  • This typically takes about 2–4 hours of direct assessment, completed over multiple visits to accommodate your child’s needs and schedule.

  • Assessments are individualized and designed specifically for children with autism

  • After the assessment, your BCBA will meet with you to review the results and offer a personalized treatment plan based on your child’s unique strengths and needs.

4. Orientation & Course of Treatment: Before regular therapy sessions begin, families attend a Client Orientation to set expectations, receive materials, and feel fully prepared to start. You’ll receive a custom binder to keep all important information and progress organized throughout your ABA journey.

Therapy sessions are:

  • Scheduled based on your child’s needs and BCBA recommendations

  • Delivered by trained behavior technicians under the direct supervision of your BCBA

5. Ongoing Family Support & Check-Ins: We believe families are the heart of the therapy process. That’s why every treatment plan includes:

  • Regular caregiver collaboration sessions — scheduled weekly, biweekly, or monthly depending on your insurance and family preferences

  • Hands-on guidance, training, and progress reviews to help you confidently use ABA strategies in everyday life

  • A compassionate partnership — because your voice, insight, and involvement are essential to your child’s success. Your BCBA and your family are true partners. Plans are adjusted together to reflect your child’s growth, changing needs, and your goals as a family.ABA is a research-backed approach to building meaningful, functional skills — but at Lake Pointe, it’s much more than that.

ABA is a research-backed approach to building meaningful, functional skills — but at Lake Pointe, it’s much more than that.

We practice trauma-informed, compassionate, and assent-based care, ensuring every child feels safe, respected, and empowered throughout their therapy journey. Our team integrates evidence-based intervention strategies in a way that honors each child’s autonomy and individual needs.

Our approach includes:

  • Natural Environment Teaching (NET) – learning through everyday routines and experiences

  • Play-based learning – building trust, engagement, and joy through play

  • Discrete Trial Training (DTT) – structured, focused skill-building with clear goals

  • Group sessions – opportunities to practice interaction, cooperation, and communication with peers in a guided, supportive setting

  • A strong emphasis on connection, dignity, and trust — because meaningful growth happens in safe and supported relationships

💡 Every child deserves therapy that meets them where they are — with respect, science, and heart.

Note: While we do incorporate Discrete Trial Training (DTT) as one of many evidence-based tools, it is not our primary method of teaching. At Lake Pointe, we understand that traditional DTT can feel rigid or unnatural — which is why our overall approach is play-based, trauma-informed, and focused on connection. Our primary goal is to help clients generalize skills in real-world settings through natural, engaging learning opportunities.

A treatment method or an educational method that will work for one child may not work for another child. The ONE common denominator for all children is that EARLY INTERVENTION does work and improves outcomes.
