The Vision and Journey of Lake Pointe Granbury Lake Pointe Granbury began with a vision crafted by Madalyn Cano in 2011, inspired by both her professional experience and personal journey as a parent. With a background in psychiatric, educational, and community intervention programs, Madalyn was no stranger to the challenges families face. But when her own son was diagnosed with Autism, ADHD, and Sensory Processing Disorder, she and her husband, Steve, experienced firsthand how existing systems often fell short in supporting children with complex needs. Navigating public education and searching for effective therapies was overwhelming and costly. The Cano family explored a wide range of interventions—some holistic, some unconventional—while advocating tirelessly for their son. They quickly realized many families faced similar struggles: resources were scattered, and comprehensive support simply wasn’t available locally in Granbury, Texas. Determined to change this, Madalyn outlined a vision for a new kind of support system—one that addressed therapies, specialized education, community awareness, and family support, all under one roof. In March 2012, she launched Lake Pointe Resource Center, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to building a network of interventions, education, and fundraising for families like hers. What began as small support groups in coffee shops soon grew into a larger movement. Recognizing the need for specialized schooling, Madalyn then founded Lake Pointe Academy, a second non-profit, to serve learners with neurodevelopmental differences. The Cano’s initially self-funded these initiatives and organized grassroots events to raise funds. Their efforts soon gained momentum: the Light Up the Blues Gala, launched in 2014, raised over $1 million by 2019, supporting staffing and operations for both organizations. Lake Pointe Academy started with just two students in 2012, but quickly expanded—serving up to 32 students and employing 14 staff by 2019. Alongside the school’s growth, Lake Pointe hosted community education events, parent support groups, and fundraisers like the Mammoth Race at Dinosaur Valley, helping to raise awareness about autism and related learning differences across Hood County and beyond. After a brief pause from 2019 to 2021—during which Madalyn led crisis counseling efforts for over 5,800 people as part of a FEMA COVID grant—she reignited the Lake Pointe vision. The Resource Center expanded to include Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy under the leadership of Clinical Director Jayden Conte, while Cristin Coulter was brought on in 2022 as Executive Director of Lake Pointe Academy.
